Sara
Sara Stokes has been belly dancing for over ten years and is an experienced and accomplished dancer. She is also known by the name of Mahirimah. Mahirimah means Sun/Moon and describes her two (surprisingly different) dance persona's; Fiery and passionate; Graceful and ethereal. She initially trained in the Persian style but now combines elements from all of the disciplines of Middle Eastern dance.
In 1998 Sara discovered the world of belly dancing by happy accident. She was asked to accompany a friend to a class that had started in her home town. She fell in love with the dance and stayed with the class and subsequent group for seven years, leaving in 2005 to form Raks Habibi UK.
Sara has been taught belly dancing by some excellent teachers and she has attended workshops and lessons with Galit Mersand, Chris Gould, Maria de Silva, Sara Abou Fahat, Amira Mor, Heather Burby, Ozgen, Storm, Shafeek, Samantha Neal, Karen Haylor and Penny Conlon. She believes that you will always have something new to learn.
In 2008, she completed and passed the JWAAD (Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance) Foundation course in Safe Teaching. As of September 2010 this course is National Open College Network accredited. Sara attended a course in December 2010 to update her knowledge and to gain her OCN accreditation for which she eagerly awaits the results!
As of January 2011, Sara will be embarking on the Drumzy School of Dance, Rhythm and Music - Advanced Dancers certified course with master teachers Hossam and Serena Ramzy. Only 20 dancers are selected for the course each term - as you can imagine she is both very pleased and excited!!!!
Sara has worked with many fantastic groups in the 1066 County and has performed at many events, charitable functions and restaurants, throughout the south east of England.
She is the teacher, choreographer and principle dancer for Raks Habibi UK. She runs weekly classes in the Bexhill area (please see Classes page) and is qualified in basic first aid. Her warm, friendly manner ensures a comfortable class environment and her (sometimes wicked!) sense of humour means that there will be lots of giggles and fun!
